EBC Day 4: Phunki Thanga Checkpost, Uphill Trail & Changing Himalayan Weather

Day 4 of the Everest Base Camp Trek begins with reaching the Phunki Thanga checkpost, where every trekker must confirm and stamp their passes before entering the upper Khumbu region. This checkpoint marks the start of the continuous uphill climb toward Tengboche.

Along the trail, you’re surrounded by flowering trees, rhododendron forests, and crisp mountain air. The weather shifts quickly—cold in the shadows, warm under the sun—one of the classic signs that you’re trekking deep into Himalayan terrain.

This portion of the trek offers a perfect mix of challenge, nature, and true mountain energy.
